Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu

Amb Arun Sahu took charge as Ambassador of India to Bulgaria on January 7, 2025. He has been a career diplomat and a member of the Indian Foreign Service since 1996.

Earlier, he served as India's High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago with concurrent accreditation to Grenada, Commonwealth Dominica and Monserrat from September 2019 to July 2022 and as Deputy High Commissioner of India to Canada from April 2016 to August 2019. In addition, as a diplomat, he worked in the Indian Embassy in Beijing twice (1998-2001 and 2010-2013), in London (2004-2007) and Tehran (2007-2010).

At the Ministry of External Affairs, he served as the Additional Secretary and Head of Central Europe Division, Joint Secretary (Development Partnership Administration), Deputy Director-General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Director (North), and Under Secretary (China).

He was a Board Member of the US-India Educational Foundation from 2014 to 2016 and the Canada-India Centre for Excellence in Science, Technology Trade and Policy at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, from 2016 to 2019.

He holds a Master's degree in War in the Modern World (WiMW) from King's College, London, and a Master's in Linguistics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

He speaks Odia, English, Hindi, and Chinese and writes essays, fiction, and columns in Odia and English during his spare time. His English publications include "Trinidad and Tobago: A Diplomat's Cultural Expedition" (2022) and his poetry collection "Iguana and Other Poems" (2020).

He is married to Mrs. Sasmita Mishra Sahu, a painter and art historian. They have a daughter and a son.
